The road from The Hub

The Hub sits at the foot of the Jebel Jais mountain road in Ras Al Khaimah, about 25 km from Ras Al Khaimah city. From there the road climbs in long switchbacks towards the summit of the highest mountain in the UAE, at about 1,934 m. The surface is good all the way, the gradient is steady rather than steep, and every hairpin opens a view back down the wadi. The descent is long and fast, so check your brakes before you roll out and keep your speed in hand.

Pace groups

Pick the group you can ride with comfortably. Social is a flat out-and-back of about 20 km and is family friendly. Intermediate rides to the mid-climb, about 40 km. Fast rides to near the summit, about 60 km with about 1,300 m of climbing. Each group has a lead and a sweep rider, so nobody is left on the mountain alone. Distances are planning figures.

When to ride

Early. On Cycle Day check-in opens at 05:30, the fast group rolls out at 06:30, intermediate at 07:00 and social at 08:00, and everyone is welcomed back at the finish arch from about 09:30. Season rides run from December to March, when the mornings at the foot of the mountain are cool and the top can be cold. Early mornings are also the quietest time on the road.

What to bring

A helmet and front and rear lights are required, and you confirm both when you register. Bring a layer for the descent, because coming down is much colder than going up, plus water and your ID for check-in. A spare tube and something to eat on the climb are a good idea. The Hub has a self-service repair stand with tools and free air for tyres, so a last check before you roll out is easy.

Rules and safety

The road is not closed for our rides. It is open to traffic, so ride in your group, keep right, and follow the marshals and your lead rider. Helmets and lights are a condition of riding with us. Riders must be 16 or over, and riders aged 16 and 17 need a parent or guardian in their booking. Every rider signs the waiver when they register, and we may change the route or the programme for safety or weather.

Start and finish at The Hub

Every ride starts and finishes at The Hub, Jebel Jais. Before you roll out there is coffee and a bakery open early on event days, the repair stand, air for tyres and plenty of parking. Afterwards there are showers, lockers, restrooms, fuel and EV charging, and on event days the Oasis offer for checked-in guests. Check in with your QR pass or tap a Passport post to collect your Basecamp Passport stamp for the day: three, six and ten stamps unlock rewards, and riding, driving and hiking in the same season earns the Explorer badge.
