Driving Jebel Jais

Jebel Jais Club drives the Jebel Jais mountain road in a marshalled convoy from The Hub, Jebel Jais, and meets there for a showcase and the People's Choice. Auto Day is Sun 15 Nov, then there is a car meet or drive every month from December to March.

The road

The Jebel Jais mountain road starts at The Hub and climbs in long, well-surfaced switchbacks towards the summit of the highest mountain in the UAE, at about 1,934 m. It is one of the best driving roads in the country: wide, smooth and steady, with viewing decks along the way to pull in and look back down the wadi. It is also a public road that stays open to everyone, so expect cyclists, coaches and families on it at the same time as you.

How the convoy works

On Auto Day cars arrive and check in from 07:00 and are placed in the showcase. After the driver briefing at 08:15 the convoy departs at 08:30 in marshalled groups, regroups near the summit mid-morning and returns to The Hub late morning for the showcase, the partner displays and the Oasis offer. Passengers are welcome; add them to your booking and they get their own pass.

The showcase and the People's Choice

Back at The Hub the showcase opens and the People's Choice vote runs on this site, with the award at 12:30 on Auto Day. Nominate your car when you register and give us the make, model, colour and year. Season meets follow the same shape: Winter Meet and Drive is a showcase and a short convoy, Classics and Heritage is a curated meet, and the Season Finale crowns the People's Choice of the Season.

What to bring

A full tank, your valid registration and insurance, a passenger if you like, and your ID for check-in. Fuel and EV charging are at The Hub if you need them before you set off. Winter mornings at The Hub are cool and it is noticeably colder near the summit, so bring a layer for the regroup.

Rules and safety

Drivers need a valid UAE driving licence and a registered, insured car that is roadworthy. The road is open to traffic, so posted speed limits and all traffic laws apply the whole way up and down, in convoy as much as alone. Follow the marshals, keep your place in the group and leave room for cyclists on the climb. Anyone aged 16 or 17 is welcome as a passenger with a parent or guardian in the same car, but cannot drive. Every driver signs the waiver when they register, and we may end participation for unsafe driving.

Start and finish at The Hub

Every drive and meet starts and finishes at The Hub, Jebel Jais, about 25 km from Ras Al Khaimah city, about 100 km from Sharjah and about 125 km from Dubai. There is plenty of parking, coffee and a bakery open early, and fuel, EV charging, restrooms and showers are on site. Check in with your QR pass or tap a Passport post to collect your Basecamp Passport stamp for the day: three, six and ten stamps unlock rewards.
